Women & Wealth: Building a Legacy With Confidence
Women often view wealth differently than men. For women, wealth isn’t just about acquiring more. It’s a key component of financial stability and creates a legacy impacting those they love and society as a whole.
My desire is to empower successful women to navigate their unique financial challenges with clarity and purpose. As a financial coach, I provide education and support to help them make informed financial decisions that align with their personal vision and values. Ultimately, I want to inspire confidence in women’s financial journeys and enable them to build legacies that reflect their values and goals.
The Impact You Make
“Legacy” can be more than simply passing wealth down to the next generation. It also includes the ability to positively impact others, whether through a charity, scholarship or special interest. I have found that when women invest, they focus on their goals, values, and impact on society. They often want to help finance the next generation’s entrepreneurial dreams or contribute to a cause near to their hearts.
While they may discuss these thoughts with their families, seeking input on what their legacy might be, they frequently don’t understand where their goals may conflict with each other. There is often a disconnect between what women want and the action they take to achieve it. They can be stuck between the leap and the landing, and this is where financial coaching comes in.
Women need a trusted advisor to provide holistic advice with a view toward their entire financial situation. I work with my clients to plan ahead — from establishing cash flow for expenses over 3-5 years to developing a longevity strategy to meet their goals or their lifetime, and after that, creating a legacy strategy to direct the transfer of wealth over generations that leaves a positive impact on society.
‘Mise En Place’ or Planning Ahead
As chefs prepare a meal, they gather everything they need together to help make the process move ahead smoothly. “Mise en place” means putting in place. To practice mise en place, a chef has all their ingredients and supplies prepared and organized before they begin cooking.
In financial coaching, I bring this philosophy to my clients, helping them put in place their hopes and dreams, goals, values, and financial expectations. Once that’s done, we can discuss what they want their legacy to be and how we can achieve that. A thoughtful conversation will lead to answers to questions such as:
- How do I want future generations to benefit from the family’s wealth?
- What are my philanthropic goals, if any?
- Do I want to invest in ways that positively impact the world?
- What’s the minimum amount that I want to pass on to my heirs? Is there a maximum?
- Do I want to help my heirs financially while I am still alive?
- Should I separate my investments from our family business assets? Or should our investments complement these assets?
Understanding the process and finding the answers to these questions gives my clients the confidence to explore ideas that might be outside of their traditional comfort zone. Together, we chart a course toward a secure financial future that allows us to focus on building a legacy.
Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow
While older women may be more focused on transferring wealth to the next generation and younger women may see a greater opportunity to take on social issues that resonate with them, both desire to define their legacy for their families and future generations. We work with our clients toward achieving both goals while helping them manage wealth for today’s needs as well.
My coaching focuses on helping women become comfortable and confident with living in the present while preparing for the future. Once my clients have defined and funded their strategies for short-term and medium-term cash-flow needs and lifetime goals, they can invest their remaining wealth in their financial legacy.
