Nourish Your Mind and Body: Simple Practices for Grounding in Uncertain Times
In a world that can feel daunting amid constant uncertainty and rapid change, it’s really helpful to take extra time to nourish and ground yourself. For each of you, that will look different, but whether you choose to surround yourself with supportive company, set aside time for mindfulness or meditation, spend moments in nature with your feet on the earth, or simply pause to appreciate the small joys, these practices can help you reconnect with yourself and feel better. I encourage you to consider what practices might feel most nourishing to you, and I’ve included a few additional nourishing ideas below.
- BREATHE…BREATHE…BREATHE – Deep belly breathing activates your body’s relaxation response and reduces stress hormones.
- Focus on Mild, Gentle Exercise – Activities like walking, yoga, or biking can help ground your body and reduce anxiety.
- Go to Bed Early – A consistent sleep schedule improves mental health, lowers stress, and boosts overall well-being.
- Daily Rhythm – A simple, consistent routine helps regulate your body’s stress response and nervous system.
- Get Oily – Ayurvedic body oiling can reduce stress and promote relaxation.
- Gratitude & Meditation – Research shows gratitude increases serotonin and dopamine, while meditation enhances emotional resilience.
- Volunteer – Helping others can provide a sense of purpose and strengthen social connections. Many of you have shared that you feel powerless in the face of current events. Volunteering allows you to reclaim a sense of control by taking meaningful action for a cause that matters to you. No matter the moment in history or the challenge at hand, making a difference—no matter how small—reminds us that we do have the power to create positive change.
